We’re not buying

Do not knock stickerPlagued by door-knocking insurance salespeople? Fed up with Avon calling? Those lovely folk at the Consumer NZ have the solution.

They are giving away “Do Not Knock” stickers as part of a campaign against aggressive door-to-door salespeople who often target the elderly and other vulnerable people. Just send them a stamped, self-addressed envelope and they’ll send you a sticker like the one at right that now graces our back door. You can also pick them up at the Citizens Advice Bureau and Resene Colorshops.

It’s not foolproof however as despite its prominent placement and bright colour we’ve had at least one energy company salesperson fail to notice it. But upon contacting the company in question they said they would make sure their staff were properly trained on this point, so you can’t ask for more than that. And it should be noted that religious doorknockers will probably ignore it.

We definitely need another one of these for the front door but fortunately Consumer have made a printable version available.
